The Evergreen Community Participation Program offers flexible opportunities to become part of the Evergreen community, whether at Evergreen Seniors Home, in the community, or at Evergreen's 2nd Hand Shop.
Whether you're looking to stay active, meet new people, learn new skills, share your experience, or simply get out of the house, there's a place for you. Along the way, you'll build friendships, develop a network of support, and enjoy early access to Evergreen workshops, support groups, and other community programs and events.
Participants choose activities that match their interests, abilities, and goals. Some people enjoy greeting visitors, organizing donations, gardening, helping with events, preparing activity materials, sharing hobbies, or simply spending time with others.
There is no minimum long-term commitment. Participate as often as you'd like, in ways that are meaningful to you and that fit your schedule.
The program is about building community through participation, connection, and shared experiences while creating opportunities for people to remain active, involved, and connected throughout all stages of life.

Participation Recognition
As a thank you for participating in an eligible two-hour session, participants may choose one of the following:
One complimentary frozen meal (redeemed that day),
or One Evergreen Shop Point (value: $1) to save and redeem toward purchases at Evergreen's 2nd Hand Shop.

The Community Participation Program welcomes people of all ages. Whether you're retired, a student, looking for community involvement, completing a placement, or simply wanting to be part of something meaningful, we'll help you find opportunities that match your interests and abilities.
At Evergreen, we believe everyone benefits from having somewhere to go, something meaningful to do, and people to do it with. Evergreen’s 2nd Hand Shop is more than a place to buy and sell second-hand items. It is a welcoming community space where people can connect, participate, learn, create, and feel part of something larger than themselves.
The simple, everyday activities of sorting donations, organizing shelves, creating displays, working on a craft, sharing a coffee, or browsing the shop may seem ordinary, but they provide something much more meaningful. They create opportunities for conversation, purpose, routine, creativity, confidence, and belonging.
Participation looks different for everyone. Some people enjoy being actively involved in the day-to-day activities of the shop, while others simply enjoy spending time in the space, meeting new people, or taking part in a craft or workshop. Every level of participation has value.
This model is built on inclusion. People of different ages, abilities, backgrounds, and life experiences share the same space, each participating in ways that are meaningful to them. Together, they create a welcoming environment where everyone has something to contribute and everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
The shop also reflects Evergreen’s commitment to environmental sustainability. By giving quality items a second life, reducing waste, and encouraging reuse, the shop benefits both our community and our environment.
