A Day in the Life
Our resident population is diverse, with a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and conditions. To provide person-centered care in this complex environment, we have implemented various systems that have contributed to our culture today.
Mornings at Evergreen
You can wake up whenever you’re ready—there’s no set time here. Most people start their day between 6:00 am and 11:00 am. Some need a bit of help getting up and ready, while others use equipment like mechanical lifts. Whatever your needs, we’re here to support you.
Bathing routines are flexible and based on what works best for you. Maybe you like a morning shower, a mid-day soak, or a bath before bed. It’s up to you.
Breakfast is served when you’re ready, and you can enjoy it in your room or in the dining room—whichever feels right that day. You can choose from eggs any style, homemade baking, pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon, oatmeal, smoothies—and sometimes a classic Benny with our homemade hollandaise. If you need help with your meal, we’ll be there.
Between breakfast and lunch, how you spend your time is your call. Some folks like to help out in the thrift shop or with light chores, like folding or organizing. Others enjoy a walk, an exercise class, a drive, or just relaxing with a show or a nap. From Monday to Thursday, Judy brings extra life to the solarium—caring for the chickens, playing music, crafting, reading, or singing along with whoever wants to join.
Lunch is served around noon, made from scratch every day. Our soups start with homemade stock, and sandwiches come on fresh-baked bread. There’s always something sweet nearby—cookies, muffins, and more.
Afternoons at Evergreen
Afternoons are your time to rest, visit, or take part in simple, everyday routines.
You might choose quiet time in your room, help prep dinner by peeling carrots, or take part in a group activity. You might go for a walk, work on a puzzle, play crib, or enjoy tea and company.
We’ll check in with you regularly to make sure you’re comfortable, including washroom support throughout the day. Unless there’s a medical reason not to, we help everyone get to the washroom regularly.
If you’re spending most of your day in bed, you’ll still be supported with a warm bed bath and fresh linens every 4 to 8 hours.
And whenever your people want to visit—they can. There are no set visiting hours. This is your home, and your guests are always welcome.
Dinners at Evergreen
Dinner is served between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm, and the menu changes daily with plenty of alternatives. Everything is homemade with quality ingredients, and you can eat where you feel most comfortable—your room, a quiet corner, or the main dining room.
You can even enjoy a glass of wine with your meal if you like. Dessert is always an option, and we keep the ice cream stocked (and not just vanilla!). Coffee and tea are always on, and we’ll keep your water or preferred drink topped up.
We play gentle dinner music and do our best to keep the space calm, so you can enjoy your meal without too much background noise—unless it’s someone’s birthday. Then you can expect some cheerful off-key singing.
We love it when guests join us for meals. Spouses always eat free, and family or friends can join for $12.50. Coffee, tea, and treats are always available.
Evenings at Evergreen
Evenings are calm and flexible. If you feel like joining in, there might be a movie by the fireplace or a concert in the solarium. Sometimes you’ll catch the team singing along or dancing a little—it’s all part of the fun.
Evening snacks are available—cheese, crackers, fruit, popcorn—and you can turn in for the night whenever you’re ready. There’s no set bedtime here.
Nights at Evergreen
Some people sleep through the night, while others need a bit more care—maybe some repositioning, help getting to the washroom, something to eat, or support managing symptoms. It’s not unusual to see a team member sharing a late-night snack or walking with someone who’s having trouble sleeping.
The night team also takes care of the behind-the-scenes work: laundry, sweeping, stocking rooms, completing charts, and getting everything ready for the day ahead.
We’re here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—always ready when you need us.
