About Us
Who We Are
The people living at Evergreen are respectively referred to as “residents”. There are both singles and couples receiving support for disease, frailty, injury or recovery. The group is diverse, of all ages, with unique likes, dislikes, preferences, routines, quirks and quarks.
The family are who the resident says their family is. Blood related or not. Family are irreplaceable sources of well-being and are essential in the quality of life of the residents.
The staff are carefully picked, kind and compassionate people here to support residents, families and each other.
As a whole, all of those supporting the resident either paid, volunteer or family are referred to as the care team.
Our story
In every community, there are individuals truly dedicated to helping others, driven by a sincere desire to make a positive impact. They don’t seek the easy way; they seek the right way. These are the types of people behind Evergreen.
Founded by local residents, Evergreen is deeply rooted in the community it serves and stands as a model of social responsibility and compassionate care.
Established in 2006, Evergreen has created a model that ensures quality care for residents with a wide range of needs. The vision began with Cindy Headrick, a critical care nurse who watched frail seniors come and go from the Emergency Department without the supports they truly needed. She asked her husband, Calvin, to help find a solution—and Evergreen was born.
The original plan was small: a six-bed assisted living facility. But when Island Health learned of the idea, they requested long-term care beds. Along with a small group of local citizens, Cindy and Cal built Campbell River’s first private care facility.
Evergreen opened in April 2006 with 14 beds. Since then, it has expanded twice, each time in direct response to the growing needs of seniors in the community. Nearly two decades later, Evergreen continues to carry forward the same founding spirit—local people taking responsibility for local care, creating a model where quality, dignity, and compassion come first.
“The facility has an amazing corporate culture, it is a testament to both management and staff and it is a rare occasion that I have seen such professional compassion. It is awesome. The team obviously has some well earned pride and investment in their work, not just the tasks at hand but the relationships too. Can’t say enough really. I am fortunate and glad to have my Mom at Evergreen.”
