Life at Evergreen Seniors Home

Daily Life

The aroma of freshly baked bread drifting out from the kitchen wakes the residents. A cheerful caregiver assists some residents with their bathing, dressing and grooming. Everyone begins their day at their own pace and choice.

Residents meet in the dining room and choose their breakfast from the day’s selection. Upon finishing, some residents read the local paper while others watch the morning news. Mid-morning brings the first of the daily activities. Residents are encouraged to participate in and lead a variety of activities such as stretching and exercise, arts and crafts, sing-alongs with visiting musicians, outings to local venues, etc.

By noon, the active residents are ready for a full lunch. Lunch is the larger meal of the day. Delicious, home-cooked meals are prepared by our Red Seal chefs. We enjoy many of the “fruits” from our own garden such as herbs, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, beans, strawberries and blueberries. Following lunch, many residents have a nap in order to be energized for the afternoon activities.

Afternoon activities can range from the ever popular bingo, local music presentations, local dance presentations, a stroll or wheelchair ride to the local pub for a refreshing beverage of your choice, etc.

The evening brings a light dinner, followed by homemade dessert. After dinner, most residents wind down for the night. Some gather in the lounge to chat or watch a movie or to visit with friends or family.

Once a month, residents and family gather for the Resident/Family Council meeting. They share ideas on various aspects of the home ranging from meals to activities. We welcome all suggestions and comments.

When the residents settle in for the night, they are assisted as needed. A bedtime snack and beverage is offered. They can sleep peacefully, confident that a knowledgeable caregiver is available and will be checking on each resident on a regular basis to ensure everyone is safe, secure and comfortable.
